My first jembe with rope tensioning system. Head is goat from Mid-east Manufacturing. Rope from African Rhythm Traders. Shell is from a pitch pine (Pinus rigida) that grew on my property in New Jersey and was dead when I got there. Its size makes it sound more like a dumbek. Nice light weight, though, and locally grown. Do you have any idea how much they need uncut trees in Africa to stay uncut?
