In 1971, ADAM KLEIN of Setauket, N.Y., was the first boy to sing Yniold in PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE, with Thomas Stewart and Judith Blegen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, where he also appeared as Zweiter Knabe in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE with Stuart Burrows, Edda Moser and Theodor Uppman. Since returning to the Met in 2000, he has performed Loge in DAS RHEINGOLD with Bryn Terfel and Stephanie Blythe, Yaryshkin in THE NOSE with Paolo Szot, Opilý Vezeň in Z MRTVEHO DOMU directed by Patrice Chéreau, the Witch in HANSEL AND GRETEL with Alice Coote and Christine Schaefer, Števa in JENŮFA with Karita Mattila, Chekalinski in PIQUE DAME with Vladimir Galouzine and (separately) Plácido Domingo, Chevalier Delaforce in DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES, Fyodor in WAR AND PEACE with Kim Begley, Iskra in MAZEPPA, Third Japanese Envoy in LE ROSSIGNOL, Third Jew in SALOME and Count Elemer in ARABELLA with Renée Fleming. At the Met Klein has also understudied many other principal roles, including Richard Croft as Gandhi in Philip Glass's SATYAGRAHA, Gary Lehman as Alwa in Berg's LULU, Robert Brubaker as Mephistopheles in Busoni's DOKTOR FAUST, Kobie Van Rensburg as Grimoaldo in RODELINDA, Paul Groves as Tom in THE RAKE'S PROGRESS, Richard Margison as Bacchus in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, and Robert Gambill as Oedipus in Stravinsky's OEDIPUS REX.

In 2010 he made his debut as Tristan in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE at Seattle Opera with Annalena Persson, Margaret Jane Wray and Greer Grimsley. Concert highlights include Siegmund in DIE WALKÜRE (Act I) with the West Virginia Symphony and the Princeton University Orchestra; Tenor Solo/Doctor Marianus in Mahler's Symphony #8 with the Boston Philharmonic at Boston Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall; Sly in FAUSTUS, THE LAST NIGHT with the Radio Kamer Filharmonie at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Holland; and he holds the record for most solo appearances with the New York Choral Society.

Klein, also a composer and songwriter, has written two operas: LEITHIAN, based on a story from The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien, which had its concert premieres in 2006 and 2007 in New York City; and GOLDIE LOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS, a short children's opera about tolerance based on the classic fairy tale. Soundfiles of both operas can be heard at his website, "". He has also written a choral symphony, De philosophia de Scientia, currently in the final stages of formatting and demo recording.

Commercial CD appearances include Mime in SIEGFRIED (forging scene) with the State Symphony of Russia on the Naxos label, the Doctor in Robert Ashley's IMPROVEMENT: DON LEAVES LINDA on the Elektra/Nonesuch label, and a solo part on If, Bwana's I, ANGELICA on the Pogus label. Also an accomplished recording technician, Klein has produced many privately printed CDs of concerts and compositions.
